Ticket Purchase through the Tap in Train Service in Patras

The Hellenic Train Tap in Train service offers fast and convenient travel by allowing passengers to purchase tickets onboard using their bank card.

How the Tap in Train Service Works

  • At the onboard ticketing device located next to the train doors, passengers select the fare corresponding to the travel zone or zones of their journey.
  • Passengers tap their bank card on the device screen. Card insertion with PIN entry is also supported.
  • The device software reads the bank card and charges the selected fare to the passenger’s account.
  • Ticket inspection onboard is carried out through the presentation of the same physical or digital card used for payment.

To avoid double charging or charging the wrong card, passengers are advised:

  • to approach the device only with the card intended for use
  • not to use the card while it is inside a wallet or phone case

Payment Methods

Credit and debit cards are accepted in both physical and digital form, via mobile phone or smartwatch, for secure contactless payment.

Accepted cards:

  • Physical cards: Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Amex, Diners
  • Via Google Pay or Apple Pay: Visa and Mastercard

Before using your bank card for travel, please ensure that the card:

  • is activated and valid
  • has not expired
  • supports contactless transactions
  • has sufficient account balance

If using a digital wallet, please ensure that NFC is enabled on your device.

Clarification Regarding Digital Wallets

Passengers using Google Pay, Apple Pay or other virtual cards cannot retrieve their ticket directly through the Hellenic Train website.

Ticket retrieval is available through the contact and suggestions form on the Hellenic Train website by providing the last four digits of the card, the date/time of the transaction and the transaction amount.

Payments through digital wallets are fully valid and passengers are not at risk of receiving a surcharge.

The payment appears in the transaction history of the account linked to the card used for the ticket purchase.

The Tap in Train service does not support the purchase of multi-journey cards.
