Discounts

Passengers purchasing a return ticket with a fixed return date receive a 20% discount on the return leg.

The discount applies to both First and Second Class tickets.

The earlier the ticket purchase, the greater the discount:

• 15% discount for purchases made 60 days before travel 
• 10% discount for purchases made 30 days before travel 
• 5% discount for purchases made 15 days before travel 

Applicable to First and Second Class tickets.

Groups of at least 6 passengers may benefit from discounted group tickets:

• 25% discount for groups of 6–49 passengers 
• 30% discount for groups of 50 passengers or more 

Applicable to First and Second Class tickets.

• 25% discount for all university students and public vocational institute students 
• 50% discount when travelling: 
  • between permanent residence and place of study 
  • on routes forming part of the journey between permanent residence and place of study 
  • between any station in Attica or the Chalkida line and Patras 

The discounts also apply to Erasmus students studying at Greek universities.

A valid academic ID issued by a Greek university or public vocational institute is required. For vocational institute students, certificates of enrolment are also accepted.

Special discounted fares apply on the Patras Suburban Railway and the Lianokladi–Stylida local line.

The Pelion train and the Katakolo–Olympia tourist line are excluded from these discounts.

Primary and secondary school students attending public schools or private schools recognized by the State are entitled to a 50% discount for travel from school to their place of residence and vice versa.

Children up to 4 years old

• Travel free of charge, provided that a separate seat is not requested. 
• If a separate seat is required, a 50% discount applies. 

Children aged 4 to 12

• Are entitled to a 50% discount on the ticket fare. 

Special discounted fares apply on the Patras Suburban Railway and on the Lianokladi – Stylida local line.

Young passengers up to 24 years old are entitled to a youth ticket with a 25% discount.

Special discounted fares apply on the Patras Suburban Railway and on the Lianokladi – Stylida local line.

To receive the discount, passengers must present an identity card, passport or driving licence, in digital or printed form, confirming their age.

The passenger’s age, up to 24 years old, must be verified at the time of ticket issuance and/or during the journey.

The Pelion train and the Katakolo – Pyrgos – Olympia train are excluded from these discounts.

The discount applies to First and Second Class tickets.

Passengers over 65 years old are entitled to a 25% discount on the ticket fare.

Special discounted fares apply on the Patras Suburban Railway and on the Lianokladi – Stylida local line.

When purchasing a return journey, the 25% discount may be combined with the 20% return discount. This combination applies to travel on the Athens – Thessaloniki, Athens – Lianokladi, Larissa – Volos, Thessaloniki – Serres – Drama – Alexandroupoli, and Alexandroupoli – Orestiada – Ormenio routes.

The Pelion train and the Katakolo – Pyrgos – Olympia train are excluded from these discounts.

Members of large families, meaning families with 4 or more children, are entitled to a 50% discount.

One of the following supporting documents must be presented:

• a valid certificate from the Large Families Association via gov.gr, renewed every 6 months 
• a certified large-family booklet and a recent family status certificate for the parents of the large family 

The large-family discount applies to children of large families up to the age of 23. If they are studying or completing their military service, the discount is provided up to the age of 25.

The Pelion train and the Katakolo – Pyrgos – Olympia train are excluded from these discounts.

A 50% discount is provided.

Active military and civilian personnel of the Hellenic Army, Hellenic Navy and Hellenic Air Force, as well as conscripts, are entitled to a 25% discount upon presentation of a military or service ID.
