Fare Evasion Fines

If, during an inspection, a passenger is found not to hold a Hellenic Train ticket or travel card, or is travelling with an invalid ticket or travel card, having boarded at a station or stop where ticket issuance was available at the time of boarding, an on-the-spot penalty of €10 will be charged in addition to the applicable fare for the journey being undertaken (full or reduced fare, as applicable).

If the penalty is not paid immediately, a penalty of €50 will be imposed, in addition to the corresponding single-journey fare.

Passengers may settle the penalty within sixty (60) days from the date of its issuance without any additional surcharge.

OASA Interoperable Tickets and Travel Cards

For OASA interoperable tickets and travel cards (smart tickets) issued within the framework of the cooperation between Hellenic Train and OASA, OASA’s penalty policy applies.

Specifically:

  • €100 for passengers travelling on a full-fare entitlement.
  •  €50 for passengers travelling on a reduced-fare entitlement.

The €100 penalty may be reduced by 50%, to €50, provided that, within ten (10) calendar days from the date the violation is recorded, the passenger purchases and activates a personalised unlimited-travel card with a minimum validity period of thirty (30) days.

Similarly, the €50 penalty applicable to reduced-fare passengers may be reduced to €25, provided that, within the same period, the passenger purchases and activates a personalised reduced-fare unlimited-travel card with a minimum validity period of thirty (30) days.

Passengers may settle the penalty within sixty (60) days from the date of its issuance without any additional surcharge.
