Ticket Cancellation
Passengers have the right to cancel their ticket up to 10 minutes before the departure of the service indicated on the ticket.
The refund of the fare depends on the time the request is submitted:
- Up to 48 hours before the scheduled departure from the boarding station: 100% refund of the nominal value.
- From 48 hours up to 2 hours before: 80% refund of the nominal value
- Less than 2 hours before and until the ticketing system closes: 50% refund of the nominal value.
Method of cancellation:
For the cancellation of a ticket, passengers address:
- A ticket office by stating the ticket number and the refund of the ticket price is made according to the payment method of the initial ticket (in cash or via credit card).
- If the ticket was paid by credit card, passengers may also contact the Customer Service Centre at 14511 (Call Centre), and the ticket refund will be credited to the credit card.
- Alternatively, passengers may submit a request via the HELLENIC TRAIN website, https://hellenictrain.stereotropism.com/en/customer-care/compensations/, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Registered users can manage the cancellation from the option provided in the menu “My Trips” at www.hellenictrain.gr/en.
Return Discount Tickets
- Either each leg of the journey or the entire journey may be cancelled.
- For each leg, the return discount applied at purchase is deducted.
- No deduction is applied based on the time of cancellation.
- Refunds are made according to the original method of payment.
- Registered users may cancel per journey leg via the “My Trips” menu.
- If the first leg of the journey has been completed, the second leg may be cancelled, with the corresponding deduction of the return discount.
Through Tickets
- Cancelled in full (from the initial departure station to the final destination).
- Partial cancellation of individual legs is not permitted.
Important Notes
- Refunds to cards may not be immediate due to banking processing procedures.
- The following tickets cannot be cancelled:
- tickets issued on credit
- interoperable tickets issued through the OASA system.
- tickets issued following booking change or change of previous tickets
Booking change
Booking change can be requested by passenger once, up to 10 minutes before departure, without charge, under the following conditions:
- applies to the same passenger
- applies to the same route (same departure and destination stations)
- for a different date and/or time
- for the same service and class category
- no fare difference arises
Booking change:
- via the Call Centre or at a ticket office, by providing the ticket number
- by registered users through the “My Trips” menu
Additional conditions:
- Tickets that have been modified cannot be cancelled
- For through tickets, all legs must be modified
- For return tickets, one booking change per leg is allowed
Booking change is not possible for:
- interoperable tickets issued through the OASA system
- tickets issued following booking change or change of previous tickets
- tickets with advance purchase discount, if the new travel date is closer than the original advance purchase period
Ticket Change
Ticket changes (different route and/or fare value) are allowed once, up to 10 minutes before departure, at the passenger’s request and responsibility.
- The original tickets are cancelled according to the cancellation terms
- New tickets are issued with payment or refund of any fare difference
Method of change:
- For tickets purchased at ticket offices: at a ticket office
- For online purchases: at a ticket office or via the “My Trips” menu (for registered users)
- For telephone purchases: via the Call Centre or at a ticket office
Return Discount Tickets
- Both legs (outbound and return) must be changed
- Change per individual leg is not permitted
- Changes are carried out only at ticket offices
Advance Purchase Discount Tickets
When changing a ticket with an advance purchase discount, the discount amount is deducted if the time between the change and the new travel date is shorter than the original advance purchase period.
The following cannot be changed:
- tickets issued on credit
- interoperable tickets issued through the OASA system
- one-way tickets to return tickets and vice versa
- tickets issued following modification
