Safety & Certification by ERA / RAS
HELLENIC TRAIN operates under full regulatory authorization at both national and European level. The company holds a Single Safety Certificate (EIN: EU1020220295) issued by the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), covering passenger and freight transport services in Greece and exclusively freight transport services in Bulgaria. At the same time, the company is certified as an Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM) by the Hellenic Rail Regulatory Authority (RAS), under ECM Certificate of Compliance EIN: EL/31/0022/0001, for the full scope of maintenance functions as defined by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/779. The Railway Undertaking License (No. 012012) was issued pursuant to Directive 2012/34/EU and provides full authorization for both freight and passenger railway operations.
Company Certifications
HELLENIC TRAIN maintains a comprehensive certification framework that supports its commitment to continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and the provision of high-quality services. The company is certified according to ISO 9001 for its Quality Management System in Rolling Stock Maintenance and also holds ISO 50001 certification for its Energy Management System, covering the entirety of the company’s activities. In parallel, HELLENIC TRAIN is certified according to EN 13816:2002 for the quality of passenger transport services, ensuring the systematic monitoring, measurement, and continuous improvement of the passenger experience. The company systematically monitors and evaluates quality, energy performance, and service performance indicators, aiming at the continuous improvement of its operations and services.
Regulatory Compliance of Contractors
Every external company cooperating with HELLENIC TRAIN — whether at stations, railway lines, Maintenance Depots, or Headquarters — is required to comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental Regulation for Contractors (GEN/REG/0042, Rev. 07). The Regulation constitutes an integral part of every contract and covers: personnel insurance and legal coverage, compliance with labour and environmental legislation, safety measures related to the specific risks of the railway environment (train movements, high voltage systems, energized depots), as well as environmental and energy management requirements. All contractors are required to acknowledge the Regulation prior to the commencement of works and sign it as a declaration of acceptance.
